Welcome to Aiki Zenshin Dojo

Aikido, the modern martial art!

Aikido is an effective, nonviolent system of self-defense. In fact, many police agencies throughout the world include aikido techniques in their arrest tactics training. Yet the founder of aikido, Moreihei Ueshiba Sensei, talked of his creation as the art of peace and reconciliation. He often commented that the primary goal of aikido was to make better human beings.

At Aiki Zenshin Dojo we strive to honor the vision of Ueshiba Sensei. I hope that you will take time to check out our web site and the links that we have included. If you have any questions, feel free to send e-mail or give me a call. Foremost, I cordially invite you to visit our Dojo, observe any of our classes, and get a feeling for our community.

Gratitude lists...

Amongst a stack of papers set aside for filing I found the "gratitude lists" that some of our kids wrote out way back at Thanksgiving time.  Just before the holiday I was sharing in our children's class that a number of my friends ended their day by writing 'gratitude lists'.  I suggested that they write up "Thanksgiving gratitude lists", bring them in and we would put them all into one BIG "gratitude list".  Fifteen kids, ages seven to twelve, chose to participate and the combined "gratitude list" had 1012 entries! Over a week's time as each list came in, I would read it to the class without mentioning who had written it.  All of the children seemed to really enjoy the readings and many of the kids embraced the idea which I believe will serve them throughout their life.  We will definitely do it again next year!

Supporting those in need!

I just found a note to myself.  I had planned to share this entry weeks ago.  Oh well... it's still worth sharing!

For the past 19 years, Aikido of Fremont has collected new toys and food to support a local grass-roots agency, Viola Blithe Community Services, in caring for those in need during the Holiday Season. This year we donated 38 new toys, 93 lbs. of food and a check for $50. And, after the initial pickup more donations arrived ~ four stuffed animals, a tall stack of children's books and $20 in cash!  I am so incredibly proud of our dojo community!!! ♥
